High Concentration of Business and Manufacturing Centers
Large-scale development projects are continuously underway in Tokyo, including the establishment of cutting edge business centers combining core business and finance functions, and convention halls and hotels serving as places to meet and interact.
Approximately 500,000 SMEs are located in Tokyo, using reliable technology to make superior products. An increasing number of nanotechnology, robotics, and other leading edge industries are also operating in Tokyo.

Otemachi/Marunouchi/Yurakucho
The area that includes Otemachi, Marunouchi and Yurakucho is the representative district of the capital, acts as the headquarter location for many of the listed corporations in Japan, and equals London City and New York's Wall Street in stature as an international financial center. Local development projects endeavor to appropriately preserve the area's historical appearance while augmenting its appeal as an international hub.

Akihabara

The Akihabara area is progressing through development projects designed to turn the district into a global ICT industry hub, with Akihabara Cross Field - a center for university labs and research organizations - at its core. Efforts to promote ICT industry clusters in the area involve taking advantage of the Electric Town's drawing power and worldwide name recognition.
Roppongi

A high percentage of finance, ICT, and software firms, as well as foreign-affiliated companies are located in Roppongi, which has Roppongi Hills, Japan's largest private sector redevelopment project, as its centerpiece. Several other development projects are currently underway that are contributing to the transformation of the district into an international business area.
Shinagawa Station area

Shinagawa Station provides access to a wide range of destinations as a transportation node and southern gateway to Tokyo. It is served by the Tokaido Shinkansen Line and is in close proximity to Haneda Airport, which is scheduled to begin operating international flights and to undergo re-expansion in 2010. All of this increases the surrounding area's potential as a new office district.
Shinjuku/Shibuya/Ikebukuro

The satellite districts of Shinjuku, Shibuya and Ikebukuro act as sub-centers so as to provide concentration of diverse living functions such as commercial, cultural, entertainment and other leisure facilities.
Jonan and Joto districts
The Jonan district is one of the leading manufacturing clusters in Japan, with 7,100 machinery, metalworking and electrical manufacturers, and those of other goods, located there. The Joto district has a notably high concentration of apparel and leather industries, as well as machinery, metalworking, and other manufacturing industries.

Waterfront City
The Waterfront City development project on Tokyo Bay, which is being carried out by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, is one of the largest of its kind. It is equipped with the most advanced urban infrastructure, including some of the largest joint-use underground utility ducts in the world. The goal is to create a high quality business and commerce environment by encouraging R&D organizations and incubator offices to locate here.
Tama area
Large groups of machinery, metalworking, transport equipment, and ICT equipment manufacturers have factories located in the Tama area. Future road, airport, and other basic infrastructure development in the district will be characterized by increased industrial cross-fertilization and the fostering of new enterprises such as digital appliances (electronic devices) and micro machines, leading to the creation of "Tama Silicon Valley."
