Confer with the officer responsible for food hygiene at the public health center that has jurisdiction over your restaurant. <Points> ◇ Prepare the restaurant floor plan. ◇ Delegate a food hygiene manager. ◇ Find out whether or not you need to do a water quality analysis. |
Present the following documents 10 days before the restaurant is scheduled for completion. You also need to arrange for an inspection. ◇ Business permit application. ◇ Summary of equipment, fittings and furniture, and placement map for equipment and furniture. ◇ A copy of the company register (only for corporations). ◇ Certificate of water quality (if you plan to use a water tank or water well). ◇ Proof of food hygiene manager's qualification (e.g., certificate). Pay the registration fee (in Tokyo, 18,300 yen as of April 1, 2007). |

Undergo inspection. If there are any problems, make the necessary improvements and arrange for reinspection. |
If you meet the required standards, you will be issued a business permit in one week.
Post the nameplate of the food hygiene manager in an easy-to-see location.
※Please note that different steps will be required for other types of businesses.
